History and Background

BioCare Diagnostics, Inc. was founded in 1987 as an independent diagnostic imaging facility by Kenneth Rice, MD, FACC, the then Director of the Cardiac Stress Lab at BIDMC. Our first location was opened in Brookline providing diagnostic cardiac ultrasound (Echocardiography), Exercise Tolerance Testing, Stress-Echocardiography testing, Holter monitoring, and event monitoring. BioCare strives for high-resolution ultrasound imaging, a professional cooperative relationship with hospital and clinical practice physicians and staff providing experienced, compassionate patient care.
In 1993, with Joseph Polak, M.D., MPH, then Director of the Non-Invasive Vascular Lab at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, as our medical advisor, we expanded our range of services to include vascular imaging, including cerebrovascular testing, peripheral extremity venous and arterial ultrasounds, and abdominal vascular exams. Joseph Polak, M.D., MPH, continues to serve as BioCare Diagnostics’ Director of Cardiovascular Imaging. A Professor of Radiology at Tufts University School of Medicine and Chief of Radiology at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, Dr. Polak is board certified in Nuclear Medicine by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and board certified in Radiology with a special competence in Nuclear Medicine and an added competence in Interventional Radiology.
